Scott Appleton

Scott is an analyst and consultant to law firms and professional services businesses with a particular focus on business development and international communications issues in the face of changing economic, practice and regulatory pressures. He has over a decade of senior level experience based in London and Madrid.

He has advised US, UK and European firms and networks on developing international and practice profiles, promoting new practice groups and encouraging closer cohesion between members and individuals.

Between 1998-2004 he was Managing Editor of the PLCWhich Lawyer Directory and Handbook series, overseeing a team of researchers and editors ranking law firms across jurisdictions in Europe, the US and Asia.

Until 2012 he was the Editor of Iberian Lawyer where he oversaw both paper and online print products. He also led the Group’s Iberian Legal Summit, a bi-annual meeting of international law firm Managing Partners, monthly Practice Round Tables, In-House Club research, and developed and led the Agenda Africa Forums.

His research and analysis has featured in publications across the US, UK and Europe, such as Legal Week, The Lawyer, PLCCross-Border, Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) and American Lawyer Media publications including Corporate Counsel. He has contributed to publications for the Portuguese Association of Law Firms (ASAP), and authored a number of firms’ and networks’ own publications.

Scott previously researched the intelligence reports of Legal Week and has written extensively on international legal business issues for the International Bar Association (IBA).

A long time ago he studied archaeology at University College London, before throwing in his trowel to qualify as a Barrister at the Inns of Court Law School.

In May 2012 he launched 954 Consulting.
